so in harry potter we learn that dumbledore has a birthmark that perfectly mimics the map of the london underground on his left knee yet him being gay was "not a relevant enough to the plot to mention" ok jkr

They didn’t mention it one way or the other. It might get tiresome if every character’s sexuality is stated. “Mr and Mrs Dursley (straight couple) of number 4 Privet Drive...”

Isn’t it nice that we learn Dumbledore was gay afterwards? I found it useful in explaining his motivations re Grindlewald. By mentioning it as an aside it helps normalise. As in “Dumbledore was gay but being gay is so normal that I didn’t even explicitly state it.”
