If I'm doing hot takes this morning anyway: given that a game technically takes place in the players' head, not on a computer, a game doesn't start when you first boot it up, it has already started when you first learn of it.

I guess this is why I think of Zelda Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time as having these rich stories, but when I go back to them they’re surprisingly concise in that regard.
