Pirating Photoshop when I was a teenager has honestly been one of the most useful things I ever did. Chatting with some other artists and they agree. If you're young and you've got no money, hustle all you need until you make your paper

Thats not a cool opinion. There are student discount versions and more cost effective versions such as GIMP for photos of Krita for digital painting. Both are free. Imagine saying to a builder "until you can make it, steal a drill and a van" ?

It's not the same, builder analogy is a stretch. Not every software has a cheaper version (Max for instance) and even the cheap versions can be an impossible cost for a student with no income. Don't shame people for doing what literally most of us did to break through the barrier

Blender (totally viable Max/Maya alternative), Houdini (3d and simulation), Nuke (a compositor) Lightworks (video editor). Unity and Unreal the same. *TOOLS* like a builder, woodworker, or any craftsman needs to do thier job. I will shame lazy people for doing something illigal.

Every industry job uses Max as standard. Blender is not a fully viable alternative to max, and not having max experience will make you less hireable. Sorry, you're wrong on this one, if you have no money you do what you gotta do to cross the barriers. We all did

There is a vast gulf of difference between a "dirty industry secret" and advocating for it on an open forum. Artists cannot have it both ways, cry foul when someone steals thier work and then turn round and do the same to software. Not wrong on this, morally or technically.

You're suggestion that it's hypocritical for a freelance artist to be mad when a large corporation steals their work, but not mad when a 14 year old bootlegs Photoshop to learn how to use it, is dumb. Both are technically illegal, but they are totally different dynamics of power
