The lack of basic economic literacy in the electorate is astonishing. I honestly believe 75% of the electorate could not explain the difference between debt and deficit. But they will still vote based on some angry facebook and twitter memes.
A flaw of democracy is that everyone gets one vote, and that vote isn't weighted based on anything, so your vote counts just as much as someone who is completely uninformed. Not that I'm advocating for a specific alternate approach, but it is often problematic
