Sitting here stunned at how many men are new to this. I cannot imagine what it is like to have never seen, heard, or being subjected to this crap. The level of denial and/or apathy to what women have been saying about this for so long is extraordinary.

Hadn't intruded into my bubble. Perhaps avoiding bars, frat-houses, etc. has provided insulation, but it's worrisome that random public mass violence is developing. My daughter can avoid a-holes, but mass/random street attacks are another level.

I think it's your male-ness that provided insulation because I also avoided bars, frat-houses, etc. and yet am harassed and experience misogyny on a weekly if not daily basis. In fact, it's only not daily because sometimes I don't leave my apartment.

And what I'm trying to tell/warn you about by sharing this is that your daughter will not be able to avoid it if something doesn't change drastically in the next few years. I don't want you to feel attacked, I want you to understand what your daughter will experience.

Thank you for your perspective. We have known of and warned her about male predators. She is now in grad school, & handles men just fine. So far, her worst experiences are jealous rival females (one in particular) working to undermine her socially.

This would be a good thread to send her. If she has also never heard of or experienced the effects of the manosphere, that would be a promising sign. Alternatively, it may prove to be an eye-opening discussion.

That's actually a great point too. I think more fathers should have conversations with their daughters about the types of experiences they have with misogyny on the streets, in the workplace, in school, on dates, online... And to listen to them, not judge or question them.

Interesting conversation. Misogyny has NOT been a factor in her undergrad or law school careers; never heard of "Manosphere" or "incel". Vaguely aware of "MRA".

Well, I would like to have her life - because I’ve never met a woman who hasn’t experienced misogyny.
