Wondering what it would be like if programs that have a notion of “tabs” or “windows” got rid of them, and focused on just presenting/editing one file/page/note, and left the tabbing/windowing and other multiplexing stuff up to the operating system.

Let's step back a bit tho. If we already commit to "objects, not apps" then we don't have app-windows (because we don't have apps), just multiple object-views, which we are free to compose into any layout. So this idea is another motivation for the deeper "no apps" perspective?
