From their perspective, if you strip government regulations you'll be destroying the very thing that sustains paradise If you give in to the endless demand for living in paradise, you misunderstand why the demand exists in the first place

The beautiful rolling hills in Fremont and north toward Castro Valley are gradually being covered by houses. If the hills become as uglified as the ones in Daly City or South SF, the quality of life for those who live within view of them will go down. No way around it.

My general view is that, somewhat tragically, aesthetic value is simply not as important as other values, such as ensuring people's freedom to build what they want on land that they own, or reducing poverty, or enhancing people's objective material well-being.

Considering that the East Bay has room, and one of the best climates in the entire US, and sits next to the center of the universe at the moment (SF and SV), it would make utilitarian sense to build like crazy and invest whatever it costs to upgrade and update BART, buses, etc
