Valid. Regarding 1, self-defense received wisdom: only carry a gun if you're entirely prepared to kill someone, because brandishing it might precipitate the need to use it

Also, I find the calm-abruptly-shifting-to-crazy can work better for non-hoodlums than the usual "hey now, hey what's this all about, hey cut that out, hey I'm getting mad, hey now I'm pretty pissed" thing, because hoodlums will ratchet up that scale ahead of you
