I am exactly the same. if I start writing something I spend ages agonising over the first sentence and I never just move on to the next paragraph if I'm not happy with the one I'm on yet
It probably is. If you wrestle with excessive self-editing, piracetam or thc might help you get lots of words down that you can groom at your sober leisure, telling for a friend

It took me six minutes to write this tweet (or I would have seen yours and rewritten mine)https://twitter.com/systemergent/status/1050756186516025346?s=19 …

I also think that I take so long with the first draft because I'm no good at editing after the fact though. once I've written something I kind of internalise it so that it feels very difficult to change even if I want to. so pre-editing feels like a way to dodge that problem

or maybe I'm just bad at editing my own words precisely because I don't do it enough

yeah me too, I do editing as a job but when it comes to my own words I just feel too close to them to objectively assess what needs to go

If you can treat your writing as "from you" and your editing (of your own words) as "for an audience" maybe?
