Is it possible that the boomers are steering the world towards total war, so that a new generation of boomers will be born in the aftermath?

They see the idealistic / visionary / crusading generations that grow up benefiting from yet pushing against a newly-stable national order (and some degree of social conformity or at least uniformity) as the mainspring of the whole four-part cycle.
But the perpetuation of the cycle is not "old Xer takes a perfectly content child under his wing to teach them the ways of an embittered survivalist" but rather that people are excessive and short-sighted and penitent in predictable ways.
