Late to tweeting @DrIbram's #AntiracistPGC panel because I've been cooking while listening, but it's blowing my mind. Some highlights.

To talk to a racist, 1st get on the same page re: what racism is. Then, open the subject of why inequality exists, i.e. why is Black unemployment high? It should become clear that the beliefs they've internalized fit the definition you agreed on—eye-opening for all #AntiracistPGC

White people focus on what they lose by ending racism. But white people need to consider what they'll gain. US police kill Black people disproportionately, but they also kill far more white people that police in other countries... #AntiracistPGC

What do White people gain by having a country where access to healthcare is equal, and access to employment is equal? #AntiracistPGC

#GoodTrouble to @DrIbram is if the 75% of Americans who, when recently polled, said they feel racism is big problem, are prepared and willing to make equally big change to try to address it. #AntiracistPGC

.@DrIbram reminds listeners that BIPOC have power. Harriet Tubman knew she had power. John Lewis knew he had power. You have to know you have power so you can take action to make change. #AntiracistPGC

Asked about how BIPOC can be racist, given an understanding of racism as tied to power, @DrIbram also reminds us that Clarence Thomas & Ben Carson have power, & use it to limit BIPOC rights; BIPOC may have less power than whites, but they do have power #AntiracistPGC

To talk to your white friend you know is racially biased, @DrIbram advocates a book club bait-and-switch: start a book club with a few books totally unrelated to race, then slip one in so you can talk about it. #AntiracistPGC

I didn't come close to keeping up, and these tweets are just a few of the very subjective "Aha!" moments @DrIbram's answers gave me—not representative of the whole event. I highly recommend watching the archived video before it disappears! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9MlCTYpqrQ … #AntiracistPGC

And of course, read @DrIbram's books. I'm halfway through the YA edition of #Stamped, with @JasonReynolds83, and it's giving me a much stronger understanding of how racist ideas were developed and sold to unsuspecting white people + how we became addictedhttps://www.ibramxkendi.com/books-1

Oooh, of course I'd remember more after the fact. Re: What white people stand to gain from ending racism: If we racist ideas were not so seductive in this country, we'd probably have a different president. #AntiracistPGC

BIPOC can better ally with each other if they recognize both differences & similarities in their struggles. And certain themes are weaponized against different groups at different times (like that of the supposed "invader"—once Black people, now Latinx) #AntiracistPGC

Here's what that convo with a racist looks like, for ex: *define racism together: for instance, belief that Black people are naturally inferior* "So white are Blacks disproportionately unemployed?" "They're lazy, less skilled, etc." "That sounds like what you agreed racism was"
