I need some hive mind help. Point me at the weirdest, boundary pushing use of a you've seen. I need to see it doing stuff it shouldn't be able to do. (This is research for a talk so link me up with the creator if possible, RTs appreciated.)

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a bored open source developer. Many developers, if given $100 of hardware, will happily provide $10,000 worth of free labour in their efforts to make it work.

What’s the worst piece of advice you’ve received? I’ll start: “sit in the corner and they’ll find you.” (A Polish saying which means “avoid spotlight, never talk about what you do or advocate for yourself. People will notice and reward you if the work you do is actually good”.)

It's so hilarious that hackers are posting stuff like reverse engineering tutorials on pornhub because YouTube bans them. "Boss, I swear, it's not how it looks, I was watching a conference talk!"

A friend had a Samsung S6 with a camera issue where there was a little bit of damage on on the rear camera where a pink smudge appeared on every picture they took. One later and no more pink smudge. Still love the ability fix things!

Every Senior Engineer or above should also be able to provide a mentee as a reference. It's one thing if you did your job for your boss, it's another thing to help create a better engineer. Thoughts?

Pursuing a project with one official goal as a proxy for another more distant goal which you don’t talk about may be the only way for some people to be more ambitious than others want to permit, but it introduces the risk of losing sight of your real objective.

I’m a huge believer in the idea that code review is the start of a conversation, not the end of one. It amazes me how many teams miss this mark.

I like leaving positive comments in code reviews. Even simple things like "I really like how you did ____" or "good use of the ___ operator." Humans need feedback, especially positive feedback. And it makes you not just look for problems when reviewing code.
