I think I understand your point, but in fact the newspapers of McKay's time put far better technology into their comic pages than ours do today. Better printing, more color, much more page area. Only in animation was he really at a loss compared to today.

I can assure you 3D and 2D softs are a real new worl for production. It's real confort for an artist when you want to correct or try various point of view and details.
