So...that means all their designs were just off the cuff? No color keys, character or prop designs? Unless they thought concept art is entirely different from visual development for animation

No they have full time concept artists, but as poorly paid work. They think artists are always hungry and dream to work with them. It is a stupid trading strategy that works sometimes with the juniors...
