I’m still friends with a former student from 15+ years ago who I couldn’t hire as a TA because ex-felons can’t be state employees. Policy reform on this issue is overdue.

UMich wouldn't let me hire them at first but they were subsequently accepted as a student at UM so the argument about safety risks they had used became moot.
