Well it appears that I remembered wrong Sessions refused to resign and fired afterwards. Still correct about Hoover.

I know Hoover was the first director who served since 1924. I misremembered Sessions as he was not fired due to a political conflict.

This mistake aside my point is still valid though this is the first time an FBI director gets fired because of political reasons.
