Q: I thought modern buildings were designed with fire containment and sprinklers that make this almost impossible. What's going on here?https://twitter.com/abc/status/874818704940294144 …

they were originally going to use zinc fire resistant panels but changed over to unknown-FR ACM panels, the contractor's websites' changed
-
such panels have been implicated in previous high rise fires, Dubai Hotel, and like Grenfell, fire and smoke alarms didn't go off at first

All of Toronto's apartment buildings were built in the 70s. Our fire department has already been looking at things to make sure no repeat.

I picked up a lot of random fire design info researching WTC7, which is why I was so shocked by the fire in London. Shouldn't be possible.

It is if you wrap the building in flammable material.

Cladding was 5k cheaper than fire resistant version. So roughly £100 per dead person

People died because they were poor, that's it. The old building was an eyesore to their gentrified neighbors, so was covered w/ flammables.

It not even a requirement in UK to fit sprinklers to these old towers. Some only have one staircase and might not have fire alarm.

Hotels are much safer though.
