It's a great and timely book... and launches in a couple of weeks. Congrats, Christine!

I've long admired @sweatscience's work so to get these kind words from him? 😊 "Christine Yu deftly skewers the failings of current sports sci research but also finds encouraging signs that the experiences of women athletes are finally being taken seriously"

Hi Twitter, does anyone out there own a pair of the #Fila Racer Plus from 2001 which they could take high resolution photos for an article I'm writing? Thanks so much for your help! #running #marathon #runningshoes @FILAUSA @fila_korea @Rolows_13 @sweatscience

"Breathe better" is a seductive promise, whether through breathwork, nasal breathing, canned oxygen, respiratory muscle training, etc. A comprehensive review from et al. weighs the evidence for these & other respiratory interventions.

Two new studies on how exercise improves (or doesn't) cognitive function: 1. an umbrella review emphasizes how weak the causal evidence is; 2. "Mendelian randomization" (a really neat approach) in 250,000 subjects supports a positive effect.

"Neuroscience professor Andrew Huberman hosts one of the most popular science podcasts. So why does he love dietary supplements so much?" After being asked again and again, I had to dive into The Huberman Lab podcast. And its supplements. .

Important topic, and perhaps an unexpected take. Worth a read for researchers, coaches, athletes, exercisers (i.e. everyone).

This still haunts me. Are my training logs corrupted by bad data?

Amazing race by , and kudos to him for sharing some of his data. Really interesting to see "what it takes" to run (gasp!) 2:05. I wonder if/how his running economy has changed in shoes from different sponsors, and whether any of the other data has changed since 2020.

Obviously, an outstanding area record 2:05:36 race from @CamLevins on the weekend, under the guidance of Victoria legend/coach Jim Finlayson. Maybe, for some, this race was surprising - but see the testing data (thanks Cam for sharing).

A couple of updates since I wrote this story: Sweden swept the top 4 spots in the women's XC ski sprint yesterday at the World Championships in Planica. That's the group that Tobias Christensson was working with in northern Sweden when I interviewed him for the article

For the past few years, a surprising number of world-beating endurance athletes have been slurping down a mysterious soup before their races. Maurten, whose hydrogel upended the sports drink world, believes it's about to do the same with... baking soda. outsideonline.com/health/trainin

Really important finding to keep in mind when looking at any training study!

The assumption that you have individually optimized vs. generic training program can itself affect the outcome of the intervention, in this case 1 RM results. "The effects of being told you are in the intervention group on training results: a pilot study " nature.com/articles/s4159

Today's Guardian column is on the IOC's lopsided approach to Russia. Isn't it odd that it keeps saying it wants a pathway for Russians to compete in Paris & criticises Ukraine for floating a boycott. Yet nothing about any red lines to keep Russians out?
