The weird thing is that Republican now seems to mean what Liberal used to mean. If I think diversity is good then apparently that makes me a Republican now.
US Republicans are just economic liberals/national liberals with a more confusing name.

This was one of the weirdest things I realized moving to France. I freely identified as a liberal in the US, but found that misrepresented my views to my new European friends, where ‘liberal’ has retained its classical economic definition.
