Blockchains are great. Instead of a single, trusted middleman you have 20000 middlemen.

Just to add some nuance to this. I don't think blockchains are a waste. But the technology has significant overhead and shouldn't be used where trust can be easily be centralized.

Exactly. So what are the use cases where it does fit? Not really clear that they exist.

Autocracies have a hard time supplying trust. There they could shore up most things. Money, land ownership, etc. But here where we live? Nada.

The autocracy is definitely going to control land ownership, whatever a blockchain might say. Money maybe. Skeptical.

I agree. Perhaps to early to discard the whole concept. But we’re getting there fast.

Remember that there were not lots of use cases for TCP/IP either in the early years. The Bitcoin/open blockchain tech is still young. My fear is that it won't be given enough time to develop

We’ll see, I guess. Given how much resources IBM and various startups are putting into blockchain IMHO it’s being given a very good chance.

IBM's model is the closed/controlled blockchain, despite open source and governance by the Linux Foundation

I don’t follow this closely, but it looks to me like there are lots of people trying it out. But maybe it’s all talk.

Seems it's so far mostly talk. Up to now the process of getting new codebases "formally reckognized" has been very rigorous and hampered development. Might change though..
