I think it might also be partly the crap culture. Youtube and video games are so fascinating to kids these days, so they aren't getting much in the way of more classic stories with worthwhile heroes to model themselves on (hard to fight that however I try!).

Yes and there is a lot of sex culture & sexism in games too. Partly, the Internet is to "blame". Did you read those threads on "incel" culture? They are pretty scary. Basically no one should be taking online interactions this seriously that it affects their real life actions.
