@laurenduca someone needs to write a piece on this. movies, books etc all teach boys to “not give up”, as if gaining a woman’s affection is a trophy. It’s time to change that narrative. Women and men who say “no” should be respected, not harassed.

Totally agree. I had a conversation with a guy who asked me what his next move with a girl from work was because she was "playing hard to get". She'd turned him down a few times but he had this romantic comedy plot in his head. I told him that's fiction. You're harassing her now.
Yep, it's literally the plot of almost every romantic comedy. Men are trained that if they just persevere, they'll "get the girl" - and often, their final challenge will be to save the poor damsel from a "bad guy" - you know, the ones we supposedly prefer. *sigh*
Exactly, if the one who asks exercises choice about whom to invite, so too must the person who is asked be permitted by society to courteously reject the invitation, with no explanation expected or required by the person who offered the invitation.
