@drossbucket BY THE WAY I have a new theory of the bat and ball. Last thing you want to hear about I know

Ha I'm never going to escape that question! I'm resigned to my fate now and I would like to hear it :)

After thinking about it, I realize I just reinvented
@_awbery_’s analysis in different language. The part of the eggplant I’m working on now is “so how do we actually abstract reality into math and what does that mean” and word problems are relevant albeit mainly erroneously1 reply 0 proslijeđenih tweetova 2 korisnika označavaju da im se sviđa -
Everyone knows word problems are only metaphorically and misleadingly similar to actual real-world abstraction, but since no one seems to have actually bothered to even think about, never mind empirically study, the latter, they’re kind of all we have to go on :(

I’m increasingly struck by how many important topics there is essentially NO research on.

A model I like: research fields form as positive feedback loops around little nuggets of insight that get amplified. There's a potential barrier (several) to get over to get that feedback loop started. And so there's zillions of proto-fields that could but don't get started

So alt-research support should identify the activation energy barriers and lower them…

Roam has essentially done this the wiki (reduced friction of new pages). It keeps track of a reference & compiles all instances of it throughout the wiki into a linked, autocreated new page. Feels like there's something crucial happening there, if even only figuratively

Finding ways that distributed researchers from across fields could contribute knowledge to new, "pre-crystalized" topics without realizing they're doing it, or that the topic is even 'a thing.'

You don't need the same frenzy of feedback loops (a critical intensity of attention & interest); the sand grain can become a pearl over long time scales, w/o anyone ever ever actually "working" on it. At that point, the barrier for a researcher to take it "over the hump" is low
