I read and share every single one I see as a little act of solidarity during a time when, in many ways, I’ve never felt so isolated.

The American Innovation and Choice Online Act is one of many ways to fight powerful monopolies, protecting people and small businesses alike. Journalist and illustrator shows us what is possible with new legislation.

Of course ClimateCheck's models are a proprietary black box, so we don't know exactly what's informing these ratings for each home.

Can’t help but notice lately how much of the narrative around green consumer choices starts from the unspoken premise that you own a home, when doing so has never been so unaffordable. Solar, induction stoves, tankless water heaters, “electrify everything” — yeah I can’t.

Tbh I'm pretty much in favor of saving the Thwaites glacier by any means necessary but damn if engineering a brace to prop up a melting glacier isn't the perfect metaphor for the stupid fucking time we live in

We aren’t even trying to enroll our 14mo in daycare at least until spring — not just because of the potential for unmasked, unvaccinated babies to get sick, but also because all I hear from other parents is how often kids are out to quarantine or care is closed for lack of staff.

I wouldn’t consider myself an optimist but until recently I hadn’t considered that people would be on their second round of pandemic babies now in this same pandemic. Whole families built in isolation.

I think there’s enough financial incentive for a real estate listing app that accounts for industrial pollution + climate risks — but maybe I’m just uniquely exhausted trying to find a place I can afford to raise my kid in California that isn’t toxic and/or soon to burn.
