.. and there is an evidence base about the harms of zero-tolerance approaches.

Poll - please distribute. Should research fraud be criminalised? If so, how? If not, why not? (in replies)

What do & think about the grooming of US teens into routine vaginal examinations that waste well women’s time, money, & effort, & risk anxiety doing invasive & ineffective screening. One person in the room benefits - by being paid?

Solidarity as no 10 tries to selectively brief journalists. Good grief - haven't they heard about honour?

Old social media, but still relevant when people in UK focus on vanishingly little FGC/M that they zero tolerate & yet don't ask Qs about nos. of male infants dying/ admitted to A&Es in last decades.

There is no evidence that health checks (inc gynaecological) benefit the well patient, but they do benefit the person in the room who's paid

Manifestly wrong-headed. The manifesto 'coalition' ignore experts who've told them the data they rely upon are wrong but presses on. Why?

“It’s just obvious to us that routine vaginal examinations are unnecessary. In the NHS we pull the stops out if people have symptoms. We don’t waste well women’s time, money, and effort, and risk anxiety doing an unpleasant, invasive form of ineffective screening.”

I'm quoted here about US doctors doing unnecessary vaginal examinations on teenagers. It's not a good idea!

Is this the way to use & generate evidence, or just rush into constant headlong innovation with proxy measures? Who benefits? @

Shockingly high MMR of 17.4/100K. Do you suppose the call for universal basic health care doesn't apply to saving pregnant women's lives in USA? Or they aren't embarrassed to be more than twice European achievements?

Great thread regarding screening well smokers for lung cancer and whether it saves lives - work it out yourself and take part in the poll!

Even if people still argue, we surely agree about doing more of what we know is good & works (or maybe I've underestimated the turf war)

If they can't coexist, or trade-offs have to be made then at least there address 'equity of arms' at proposal stage. Lots of middle-men profiting, & only lawyers who can wade through >500 pages & >180 questions. Why not merge regulators of abortion/ IVF/ adoption - all precious?

    1. Disappointing that the Law Commission is being called out about a dreadful consultation, esp plans to leave regulation to (which many already consider too close to industry & limited powers). Is it possible to have both altruistic & commerical surrogacy?
