Assia was released early under the DVSJA, in recognition of the fact that her abuse led to her conviction.
DVSJA is supposed to protect criminalized survivors, but if @NYGovCuomo doesn't ready his pardon pen, the "relief" under DVSJA is a cruel joke for *immigrant* survivors.
Without pardons, any immigrant survivor released under DVSJA will immediately be a target for ICE. Incarcerating survivors replaces their abuser w/ the state, which acts as a new abuser thru cops, DAs, COs. For immigrant survivors, there's a third layer of violence from ICE.
If @NYGovCuomo doesn't pardon immigrant survivors released under DVSJA, he's saying DVSJA is only meant to help US citizens.
