There is no social distancing, which is proven to save lives. The physical design of the prison is not adequate for emergencies like this pandemic. The risk factors are high in transmitting covid. Going to the doctor, nurse, telemeds, or OBGYN, we are less than a few ft away 2/
from the doctors and nurses. Here at CCWF, staff got lax since no cases were initially reported. Most times, staff don’t even wear masks. We should have been locked down until all the results of CDCR employees came back. 1 staff member in the Central Kitchen, 3/
who cooks for the entire prison, tested positive for COVID. The critical inmate workers who worked in the central kitchen were all sent to quarantine immediately for 14 days. But the central kitchen workers were prematurely let out of quarantine back to their units for a day, 4/
exposing others to COVID in their units. This was negligent and put people at risk. Also, the prison-to-prison transfer also put people at risk: an inmate was transferred here from Mc Farland when they were not supposed to be any transfers, tested positive. 5/
McFarland was quickly emptied so CDCR could turn it into an immigration detention center. The virus is spreading quickly. On Tuesday, 7/21, approx. 30 more inmates were taken to quarantine after being exposed to Covid19 by 2 free world counselors. 6/
Now it’s a total of approx. 60+ inmates in quarantine. Those who are quarantined were only scheduled for a 1 hour time block to shower. They had to take 5 min or less showers. Imagine what that is like now with double the number of people in quarantine. 7/
It was also reported that the rooms were filthy and they were not given supplies to clean the rooms. These are the same issues that existed for years with no resolution even before COVID19. 8/
There are several immunosuppressed and elderly who are the most vulnerable to the negligence of staff. example: [an older trans incarcerated inside member of S&P] is in quarantine because he was exposed in his workplace by 2 negligent staff. 9/
He is in his 70's, in a wheelchair and not a threat to anyone, but being incarcerated during this pandemic is a threat to his life. His stress level is high and has exacerbated his health conditions. He is to name a few! 10/
For the past 4 months, programming inside has been limited. Only critical workers can go to work, the same ones that went to quarantine! Programs indoors are daily for an hour to an hour and a half, if there’s no staff training, alarms, or they’re not in a bad mood. 11/
Everyone needs fresh air, but we are allowed to go to the yard for an hour or so every other day. Covid announcements are made several times during the day as required but meaningless. The inconsistent information and rumors have everyone stressed, scared, and depressed. 12/
They don't have enough therapists to keep up with the many inmates who need help. All of these issues have been brought up repeatedly with no resolve."
