      Slide Title: Context Biden has done this before In the 90s, Biden spread fear about youth who were “predators”, “beyond the pale”, and could not be rehabilitated, in addition to pushing for billions of dollars for new prisons, The climate of fear led to harsh sentencing across the country including California. Sentence re: VAWA and crime bill - Biden has proudly pointed to his support for the Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA) in the 1990s which provided protections to some immigrant survivors. VAWA, however, excluded criminalized immigrants like Gabby from any protection and to make matters worse funded a hundred thousand more police officers. Given his personal track record and VAWA leaving out people like Gabby, Biden is not the champion he positions himself to be.
