I love Super Bowl statistics. (“No team that has failed to convert at least 35% of their 3rd downs has gone on to win” etc.) They are the best introduction to p-hacking that can be found outside major journals.

I haven’t studied this issue much but from what I’ve seen it seems like an argument over process rather than substance. Science at its best is convergence to the best explanation, not as some would have it, some kind of purist method of what is true or false (or can be ignored)

Moral outrage is the cause of more irrationality and hysteria than almost any other human tendency. Many focus on the upside of morality, but we should seriously study and recognize its downside. Moralizing is often more vice than virtue.

Wow, this is incredible: A guy controlling a robotic arm with his mind at a distance 😮 Ten years ago, this would have been science fiction; now it's science fact. Wonder where we'll be in another ten years...

This post is epic in its complete and total accuracy. Sorry it's broken up into four segments, but Trump's criminality is too extensive to fit conveniently. Read the whole thing.

hello i am a person you don't follow on twitter who thinks you are wrong but perhaps if you would consider devoting an large amount of time to explaining yourself over a long series of tweets there is a remote possibility i may be convinced. i promise this is worth your time.

This piece is right on target. Especially liked the concept of The Mook, which I've come across in ev psych threads. Dovetails nicely with the recent posts on The Story of Us on . The Internet of Beefs via

Chatting with about Marshall Sahlins' premonition about the end of ethnography. It's scary to think about and it not just EP. We can't apply cross-cultural experiments to these cultures anymore. They're gone. How are we to use this when it's bound to be ignored?

The paywall model may keep publications from going out of business, but it greatly decreases their influence. Now they're just newsletters.

I’ve been working in Indonesia since 2014 & from talking to people, I’m convinced it’s among the most under-appreciated countries in terms of size & importance. Here’s an attempt to convince you there’s much more going on:

This model explains a qualitative insight I’ve assumed for awhile - almost all elite athletes during steroid eras in pro sports w weak enforcement (e.g., MLB, cycling) used steroids. Simply put, they couldn’t keep pace if they didn’t.

A thought experiment that illustrates how voting really isn’t actually about effecting the outcome of an election. (Obviously. It takes an economist to get this wrong.)
