If the CPC, for example, is going to continue to move further and further to the fringe while hoping to one day win a general election, then they have a vested interest in nurturing the idea that when they speak the language of extremism, they speak for everyday Canadians.

This is why the vast majority of Canadians, who this “small, fringe minority” does not represent, knew that Trudeau wasn’t talking about us. It’s not just the fact that they’re lying about what he said. It’s the fact that they’re lying to themselves.

I think that a big part of the reason why there’s a coordinated effort to get the “Trudeau called everyday people like me extremists!” message out is to strengthen the myth among these extremists that the average Canadian is one of them and believes what they believe.

Given the state of #cdnpoli, particularly with Poilievre now leading the Conservatives, I'm going to boost a couple of old threads. Canada's fringe-right media and their ideological counterparts in mainstream publications have, for years, been piggybacking off the American right.
