David. I have supported a temporary moratorium pending analysis and review of initial pilots. The High Court recognised an intent to strengthen the regulations but stated it’s use - in certain circs - was lawful. I understand your frustration

I believe that the Home Office Law Enforcement Biometric Oversight group needs to release a comprehensive assessment of the initial trials - so that the public understand the considered issues as they emerge

If you’re referring to the 5 years it took to deliver a biometric strategy and the , as yet , unrefreshed surveillance cameras code of practice - I hope not. Commitment from Ministers is that this will happen. Myself and fellow regulators are pressing and offering support

Important observation from ICO. However I call on MPS to observe the broader legislative framework beyond Data Protection. Impact on all Human Rights, recognise Bridges decision is not a green light

I still call for robust legislation to provide clarity to law enforcement as to its use. Government manifesto has accepted that - let’s see it delivered. I am engaging with MPS prior to the commencement of the use of LFR

Certainly is . We await decision on whether the courts will allow an appeal in Bridges v South Wales Police. It’s right and proper that use of such technology is viewed through our independent courts. It’s also right that constraint in its use is observed whilst this proceeds.

Will. Thanks. I will follow with interest. Idea very much centred in Smart City approach - love that or hate that - I can’t see how they get to keep the data. Be interesting to have a discussion at our Independent ANPR Advisory Group - will we be faced with similar challenges?
