I want to share what I learned today about a UK-based anti-trans hate group called Our Duty. The purpose of this group is to provide support for parents who want to make their trans child normal. Here are some screencaps from their webpage. (They're upsetting.)pic.twitter.com/JfIYik1HAy

I'm sharing this bc I think it's important to speak about groups like this loudly and publicly, so that frightened parents looking into them get to hear the truth, which is that treating children this way traumatizes them, often kills them, and destroys families.

Often, people say that we "just don't know yet" how this approach affects people. This isn't true. I'm from the first generation of transsexual adults who came out as children & were met with the sentiments in these screencaps. I don't mean to be alarmist, but I almost died.

I can't even express how frightening it is to see the ideas and sentiments that traumatized me as an adolescent amassing more adherents and developing a more formalized structure. I feel like a real miner's canary. I would like to feel heard.

Ask yourself how many times you've read an article that "considered both sides" and included a quotation from someone like me, who this ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO and who survived it and transitioned. Ask yourself why that is.

If this were a humane technique intended to help someone find their true self, wouldn't there be adult transsexuals speaking about how it helped them on their journey? Isn't it weird how there aren't any? There are just people like me who speak about the irreparable harms. Why?

I'd like to amend one of the tweets earlier in this thread--kids've been coming out & getting met w/ some variant of this for a long time. Maybe I'm part of the first generation of kids for whom these ideas were formalized in opposition to trans liberation movements? You get it.

So, you feel that dysphoria will never ‘resolve’ itself if the affirmation model is not applied?

what do you tell the 50+ year olds who transition? oh yes, if only you wait 35 more years, can't feel dysphoria if you're dead
