Japan's brand-new high-speed train, running from Nagasaki to Takeo-Onsen! This is the Kamome, which translates as 'seagull'. 😅🇯🇵

Welcome aboard Uzbekistan's premier rail service, the high-speed Afrosiyob! These high-speed units are capable of 250km/h, and I'm in VIP Class. Let's head to Samarkand! 😁🇺🇿

Without a doubt the coolest airport train I've ever seen! The design looks futuristic even now, and these trains are nearly 30 years old! 🇯🇵 First class ticket one-way costs ~£10 including seat reservation.

Got told off for taking photos of this Russian train at Vilnius station, so if you see these pictures, then don't. 😃

Arrived at Samarkand two minutes late. Really liked the journey, especially for the price of €15 - no wonder it always sells out. It's just a shame about the rough ride! 😁🇺🇿

Welcome aboard the Sunrise Express, Japan's last scheduled sleeper train! 😍 Tonight, I'll be riding on the floor (pretty much), in the nobi-nobi space that I reserved. Not the most comfy way to travel! 😂🇯🇵

Welcome to the Asa Coast Railway, on the Japanese island of Shikoku. 🇯🇵 As a solution to decreasing passenger numbers, they introduced these convertible train+bus vehicles - how unique!

This is Kyrgyzstan's incredible VIP train, running between Bishkek and Rybachye on the shores of Issyk-Kul! And what better way to take in the breathtaking mountain scenery than these HUGE panoramic windows? 😍🇰🇬

Welcome aboard Kazakhstan's flagship train! This is the wide-body Talgo fleet, that I'll be riding across the border to Uzbekistan. Best of all, I've booked a private room with a shower! Let's hope it's a smooth journey... 😉🇰🇿

This is the Stepnogorsk Railway, an isolated route serving industries in this former closed city, yet disconnected from the national network of Kazakhstan. It runs with these 1960s Soviet Elektrichkas, the last of their kind globally. I really enjoyed this visit! 😁🇰🇿

Perhaps the biggest problem with these new trains is the fact they are two car! For so many of these routes, it's just not enough capacity, as I already found out. Replacing fully loaded trains with ones that have even fewer seats was a terrible idea...

Gran Class LUXURY on Japan's famous #Shinkansen. This carriage runs on the Toki route from Niigata to Tokyo. Bet you wish your country's trains looked like this! 😍🇯🇵

It's so weird to see such modern trains preserved! 🇯🇵 This futuristic looking JR 500 series Shinkansen sits in Kyoto Rail Museum. My favourite design!

WARNING! for people booking services. For some unbelievably stupid reason, the website shows you the train times in YOUR timezone, not when the train actually departs. This is terrible website design, and will likely lead to people missing their trains.

Certainly no complaints about the views on this train! Big panoramic cab view, and huge side windows make for a great experience. 🇯🇵

Also, accessibility isn't great. Most obviously, there's no . But also, a poor provision of information. Most of the time, the screens display Welsh, with most announcements also being in Welsh. This is of course useless for most people on-board... 🙄

Talgo trains have a unique wheel design, with just a pair of wheels shared between carriages. Unfortunately, this results in a VERY rough ride, with lots of bumps and rattles! 😵‍💫🇰🇿

And whilst here, it'd be rude not to take a ride on one of Mumbai's commuter trains. First class has a 3+3 layout - but at least there's padding. 🇮🇳
