**We retract our rec of Egidio Sementilli & do not offer a rec in AD82** Thanks followers for alerting us: Sementelli called for return of stop-and-frisk and opposed homeless shelters & treatment clinics.pic.twitter.com/Pi2esn7E9n
Sunrise NYC created the People’s Voter Guide because we deeply believe that the more we engage with our political system—especially at the local and state levels—the more power we have to advance climate justice & the progressive agenda.
Yet for many progressive NYC voters, it’s hard to identify the best candidates because they all claim to be progressive. The People’s Voter Guide aims to fill this gap. As @ZephyrTeachout points out, the guide goes “past the ‘endorse or be silent’ model”. https://bit.ly/3fiE3qW
To make our recommendations, we (1) consulted 18 progressive groups’ public endorsements, (2) weighed candidates’ platforms and track records, (3) studied each race’s complexities (like possibility of splitting the progressive vote)...
and (4) considered whether the incumbent has been moving left on key issues/is a willing partner. Using this methodology, we arrived at candidates that we saw as the best option for progressive voters, even if we weren’t excited enough to endorse them.
NOTE: The guide’s recommendations are NOT endorsements. We’ve endorsed 16 incredible candidates (learn more & sign up to phonebank for them @ http://sunrise-nyc.org/endorsements ). This guide contains our *recommendations* for 40+ races.
As this was Sunrise NYC’s first stab at a voter guide, we strove for perfection but also knew it’d kickstart a valuable learning process. We want to work with our partners in the future to create a better, more collaborative and robust People’s Voter Guide for NYC.
That means you! We need your help if this movement is to succeed. You can join Sunrise (http://sunrise-nyc.org/get-involved ) or email sunrisenycendorse@gmail.com to contribute to this effort, provide feedback, or otherwise get involved.
The surest way to make your voice heard is to request your absentee ballot (http://nycabsentee.com ) by this Tues, June 16th, and GOTV on or by June 23rd (ELECTION DAY!). We hope you appreciate the People’s Voter Guide, and plz RT & share w/ ur NYC friends to get the word out :)
This is a move in the right direction, but @JerryNadler takes fossil fuel money and @LindseyBoylan does not. @CarolynBMaloney takes Big Pharma and Big Bank money and @VoteAshcraft does not.
@sunrisemvmtnyc is still endorsing corrupt incumbents over grassroots activists!
