We are already seeing hotspots on most college campuses. Most are on track to having to shut down. They knew this would happen. Many already planned to remain closed after Thanksgiving break. Why did they open? They intend to remain open past the semester refund date.

They put their profits over the lives of students and their families. This is nothing new. 50 years ago, you could pay for college with a part-time summer job. Now, the average student debt is $35k. That's 18 years of part-time summer jobs. Start at birth I guess

And it's not just colleges. Insurance lobbyists have opposed single payer healthcare even as our healthcare system has crumbled and prices have increased 1000% in the last 50 years. That's not an extra zero. A THOUSAND percent. Two thirds of bankruptcies are due to medical debt.

Mass incarceration. School shootings. Police brutality. And of course, climate change. Fossil fuel money was used to spread misinformation about climate change for decades, and to buy the inaction of our governments. Money talks.

We have watched as powerful, moneyed influences have shaped our government in a way that is wholly undemocratic, and our median wealth lags DRAMATICALLY behind previous generations at the same age.pic.twitter.com/UTGIIAslPK

We have seen that it's not safe to trust the basic functions of our society - healthcare, housing, clean air and water, schooling, maybe even internet - to profiteers. They need to be run without any profit incentives, with the only incentive being serving people.

The question isn't: "How can we afford a Green New Deal?" It's: "What will the human cost be - in millions and billions of lives - if we fail to take that dramatic action to avert climate change IMMEDIATELY?" The Green New Deal is an investment in the future of humanity.

I agree (though I'm from a previous generation). And it's not just public services. And so I conclude -- from this and many many other examples -- that we need to end capitalism. Do you concur? Or do you think some sort of "reforms" short of that are possible?
-
Don't end it, just limit it and quit making it a convenient excuse for everything inconsiderate and thoughtless, mindless, and cancerous-ly growing with no feed-back loops. It's unfortunate they label it "capitalism".

That’s a good reason to replace corporate incumbents. We’re the first Democratic campaign that Nancy Pelosi has faced in a generation. We also favor your signature policy vision, which she derides. Join us! We’re here to defend the future from the past.https://shahid.fyi/volunteer
