I wrote earlier about how Brexit broke my brain.
This point always stands:
"Being perpetually outraged loosens our perspective on what’s important and what isn’t true. It makes us more easily dismiss facts that don’t fit the narrative"

What's WORSE is that figures like Trump and Musk know this too.
If your aim is to be the centre of conversation (positive or negative, it doesn't matter) - get people to argue about you on social media.
Trump rode the wave of liberal anger to unite conservatives. He used us.

It isn't just that people's hatred of Musk and Rowling breaks their brains and makes them interpret everything through that prism.
I think the broader problem is that *social media* as a whole does this. The same happened with Brexit and Trump. (1/n)

Why action on climate change and #netzero will be a key issue at the next General Election… this isn’t a one off poll either- but reflects a consistent and growing trend that voters are prioritising ‘green’ issues in the new political mainstream that is emerging

It's come to my attention again that few people have any idea what the government's "stop the boats" illegal migration bill does, so:
It ends the right to seek asylum in the UK.
No decsions. No applications will be processed. From Afghans to Albanians. Limbo forever for all.

On climate change, we often assume people are either believers or deniers.
I don't like either label, because climate change is not a religion.
Instead, I prefer the 6 categories identified by for the US. climatecommunication.yale.edu/about/projects

A typical political response to this is: "oh no, a backlash is brewing!"
But I think this is good for Britain, economically and culturally.

In summary, as I say in the column, all the media focus is on illegal migration. But it's the perfectly legal kind that is already doing much more to reshape our country. Please give it a read thetimes.co.uk/article/britai
