Does anyone have the right to sex? by Amia Srinivasanhttps://www.lrb.co.uk/v40/n06/amia-srinivasan/does-anyone-have-the-right-to-sex …
Srinivasan points out that incel rage is not about sex, but about power, and very often about race as well. They want to have dominance over women, but also over men, often men of color, whom they see as inferior and whose success they resent on racial grounds.
More: "The question, then, is how to dwell in the ambivalent place where we acknowledge that no one is obligated to desire anyone else, that no one has a right to be desired, but also that who is desired and who isn’t is a political question..."pic.twitter.com/VFRNubzFjg
It's invisible to these "incel" men that they regard women as a life support system for vaginas that are men's property, but unequally distributed. The same malevolent sexism that allows them to have this concept is what keeps them from achieving intimacy and sex.
And it's not just that the "incels" can't afford to hire prostitutes. They don't/won's, because their fury stems from idea that other men have vaginas to cum in "for free." So the very property-based sex that they want is totes available, but they want their cake and eat it too.
It's a way of expressing rage at men who are more successful in relationships, while rejecting the mature values that allowed them such success, by the instrumentality of murdering women. Who are just vaginas they can't have, and therefore count for zero.
The mental gymnastics required to avoid everything but "maybe these men need to work on their personalities and what they feel entitled to" is stunning.
er, propose everything but. bring back the "edit tweet" button!
They see it as a commodity because they see women as chattel. Which explains perfectly why they can't get laid. Part stupidity, part delusion.
This 'movement's' common denominator is men. I don't see women forming an 'incel' group. (And what a ridiculous name.) But instead of trying to change men's behaviour of sexual entitlement, let's just give them $ to... do what? Buy sex? Get a gym membership? What?
What do you want to bet that those men also have unrealistic, abstract expectations of the women who “owe” them sex?
"Incels" don't want women to have sex with. they want women to be the robotic sub-humans they paint them as, because they can't imagine a world where men "earn" sex by being kind, likeable people. Their fixation on sex is just an extension of a total inability to socialize.
I've never read anything so stupid in all over my life. The entire premise divorces the idea of consent and instead tells people they are owed sex for human dignity. That's not at all dangerous /s
earlier this morning I read about the "gay panic" defense being used in a case to get a guy probation instead of a lengthy jail sentence for murder Okaying rape, okaying murder, heterosexuality is fragile out there
What the hell. Maybe try being a decent human being. Just a thought.
Somehow I doubt he thinks: fat disabled women; trans people; older women; should have men or women sent to them for sex though.
There's a huge sexual inequality there.
Frankly I'm furious that I now have to waste much-needed brainspace knowing there's such a thing as the Incel Movement. Also angry that my phone doesn't try to autocorrect incel even though that was only the second time in my life I've typed that ludicrous word.
I can’t help thinking these guys are still mad they couldn’t sleep with their own mothers.
