i went with the screen-space derivatives technique from the gpugems article because you can use the sign to know which side of the curve you're on, but now i'm getting strange artifacts. not sure if it's numerical issues (analytic derivs would be better, probs) or texture bugs

now i have 2 separate bezier distance functions lol. should be able to remove one of them

then you can test each triangle against the cells of the lattice for intersections and copy the curves into each of the cells they overlap. each cell has a fixed (configurable, but affects perf) capacity, so you do need to be careful about too many curves in the same cell

the red squares are cells in the lattice that contain at least one curve. i'm only reading the first curve for each cell right now, finally just got more than a single curve to work
