“If you want to tell your own stories, you will have to start your own company” still seems to be true.

I’ve had so many young writers ask me how to pitch a story idea to a game company and my answer has always been, “They don’t want your idea. They want you to build theirs.” Even though much of what makes a writer is identifying the ideas worth the effort of turning into stories.

you wouldn’t believe how many game makers try to work in narrative-heavy genres, or on text-intensive experiences, with no story experience, while treating writers (randomly assembled, underpaid) as peripheral contract labor. it’s a thing

Folks, I know caucuses are complicated. A lot of room for error. So we’re going to solve it with the most reliable technology known to man: hastily-developed mobile apps

One more time for folks looking for something to read this sunday afternoon, here's my review of KRZ. Low on spoilers, but if you've recently completed the game, I think you'll get a lot out of it:

Now also let's remember, your ability to "be cool about it" and "stay out of politics" is not a choice but a direct product of your privileges. Fighting against systematic oppression is hard and no one likes it, those who do it, do it because they're otherwise endangered...

Something clicked. There are two ways for a team/org to go about learning a new way of working. 1) Pick off a part, then deepen & broaden. Or 2) allow them to experience the full practice, then deepen. Lots of orgs assume the left option is the only way and is "safer". Is it?

Have been told by multiple VCs that they have to chase 10x returns because 9 out of 10 investments fail and the big one makes it back. Can't help thinking that forcing a business to get 10x returns no matter what is one of the reasons 9 out of 10 fail.

The white dudebros will always always always vote against the interests of marginalized people. You cannot separate class from issues of race, religion, gender, sexuality, and ability. Pandering to a bigot like Rogan, Sanders is pretending we can.

Sanders gets that bigoted white dudebros voted overwhelmingly for Trump in 2016. He figures, "If I can help them understand how the lower- and middle-classes are getting screwed, they'll vote for me." Here's the problem. This move sells out *non-white* people in these classes.

We're back to the idea that Bernie believes he can speak to the working class while ignoring bigotry. Bernie knows that Rogan is a transphobic misogynist. He just doesn't care. He's reaching out to Rogan's listeners, angling for the bigoted white dudebro vote.

Joe Rogan sucks and legitimizing Joe Rogan sucks and even if it's being done in the interest of convincing his bigoted fans to vote for someone who supports their rights, it's still painful for trans people to see someone who has harmed them be embraced for political expediency.

Today workers at Kickstarter are voting to form a union. The vote won’t be counted for a few weeks, but if successful, labor historians I’ve talked to confirmed it will be the first full time employee union of a tech company in US history. Some background:

i think that's why anti-blackness has fit in so well with his campaign and alt-righters have been drawn to him.

I'm glad more people are talking about Yang's refusal to talk about race and racism in a meaningful way. I find it utterly disqualifying when we're (1) a nation founded on white supremacy; and (2) under a white supremacist president emboldening white folks' racism.
