Look at the history every idea he's floated, they've all been around for quite some time, but were never implemented due to impracticality. eg landing & reusing rockets had been studied extensively, but always shown to be more expensive than expendable. Hyperloop = Vactrain etc..

your argument is that he’s doing things that were never thought possible. isn’t that a good thing?

Launch industry didn't think landing rockets was impossible, they didn't do it because it would make launches more expensive. So when Musk has SpaceX incarcerate investor capital to land rockets, that's a bad thing b/c that capital could have been invested elsewhere.

bottom line is the cost of space travel is much cheaper when using reuseable rockets. it may not be at first, but it’s already proven itself to reduce the cost. you’re reaching way too far

No it isn't. It's more expensive. You spend more trying re-certify the rocket for launch again than you would building a new rocket. We already learned that /w the space shuttle. Now SpaceX is burning over $2B a year b/c Musk wouldn't listen.
