It was. But people are now using Answer me this in everyday speech. Batman- yes. Everyday - no.

In German there can be the phrase "beantworte mir das" which could be a direct translation. Not sure if this might be originated in a joke about Germans translating things word by word and not by meaning. Just a guess.
