I will never understand why Republican elected officials say nothing when Trump lies. Do they tell their kids it’s okay to lie? Do they think their kids don’t see a president constantly lying? Do they think it doesn’t matter? Talk about defining deviancy down.https://twitter.com/elise_jordan/status/1081393808066207746 …

I think Republicans don’t care as long as they get their tax cuts and people they don’t like (anyone that isn’t a straight white person) are insulted and hurt. Republicans are bad people.

I think you could probably change that perception if you cared about the good of all people instead of greed and cruelty. It’s not that hard if you’re a halfway decent person.

I'd consider myself halfway decent. I've got a brother in a wheelchair, a mother who died of alcoholism, a father who went to prison, and a wife who is adopted from Russia. Perhaps not a cookie-cutter Republican.

I believe in compassion, but I also believe that power is best bestowed in the individual, and not the state. As such, government-sanctioned acts of "compassion" seem to never properly address the issues they claim to for a variety of reasons. Does that make me indecent?

We have a Republican president talking about martial law to seize private property for use best deemed by state. And he’s a conservative?

In all seriousness, I became a conservative because of the principles espoused by the likes of Ronald Reagan, William F. Buckley, Barry Goldwater, and even Calvin Coolidge. I believe in respect towards my philosophical opponents and I believe in healthy debate and discussion.

There's a curious tic Trump has that reveals that he suffers from imposter syndrome: The way he tries to marshal unnamed people in support of his policies ("many people," "a lot of people say," etc.). He has zero confidence in his own ability, convictions, and decisions.
