It would be interesting to ask what if even a monstrous dictator who runs a prison camp of a country praised Trump, would Trump be so needy he’d slobber praise on the dictator? What if that dictator tortured an American to death? Would Trump still praise? But we know the answer.

Seeing people argue that the president's "very fine people" remark was mischaracterized, and that he was really referring to a third group of non-racist pro-Lee protesters at the rally. As writes, this is incorrect for a number of reasons.

What a great story. Thanks for sharing. Those in life who taught him these values should be very proud. And to you, , well done.

Those who died fighting for South didn’t die as Americans. They died as Confederates.

Mailing this to the President today: Dear , it took someone correcting me, educating me, and showing me how wrong I was to admire and romanticize Robert E. Lee. I’m sending you this in hopes I can pay it forward. Sincerely, Rob Lee

Yes, Lee only fought for VA. His refusal to manumit his own slaves until forced to, his enslavement of free black people during the war, his maltreatment of black soldiers, and his opposition to black suffrage after the war are all just a coincidence.

Ahem. *Taps mic* Lee was in fact fighting against his fellow Virginians and members of his own family by betraying his oath - Winfield Scott, George Thomas, David Farragut, multiple Lee cousins, and the entire Western half of the state, to name a few Get a new argument.

There’s no mystery why states seceded. They wrote the reasons down so the world would understand. They all include defending slavery: Unless Lee was a traitor to both Virginia as well as the US, he was fighting for slavery as stated in Va. Declaration.

My 5x great grandfather was the holder of the second largest number of enslaved people in the US in 1860. One of his sons was a Confederate general. It’s only now in my generation that we’re coming to terms with that history. Lost Cause ideology needs to die.

My favorite book growing up was “The Gray Ghost.” “Our poor country has fallen a prey to the conqueror. The noblest cause ever defended by the sword is lost. The noble dead that sleep in their shallow though honored graves are far more fortunate than their survivors.” John Mosby

I’m a 7th gen Mississippian. I’m named for uncle named for Jeb Stuart. My 3xgreat uncle rode with Mosby. My linen chest a relative took to caves in V’burg., carved siege calendar into top. I grew up with July 4th as day V’burg & Gettysburg fell. I might have some understanding.

This is sentimental nonsense that would be as silly as believing in tooth fairy as an adult but for its deeply harmful and pernicious impact. Read

I grew up in Miss. when the cult of Lee was at its peak. It should be examined with facts. Lee was a slave owner who broke his oath to country in a rebellion to defend slavery. He was a traitor. As for being a great general, Fidel Castro was too & he actually won.

You know what I heard that weekend? Not one single comment about Robert E. Lee. But I did hear racial slurs and the chants, "Jews will not replace us!" and "Into the ovens!" Very fine people, indeed.

I know, I know. But with a President who is, as Senator Cruz, said “a pathological liar” what standing do Republicans have to criticize plagiarism last century?
