To be fair, can't predict what politicians will turn out to be. When @OwenPaterson became MP for my school's constituency (#Shropshire N), we didn't know that, by supporting hard Brexit and belittling climate change, he would ensure the poverty of generations of his constituents.

The fact remains that the UK government is doing nothing to prevent this. Still there is no government department covering the reporting and investigation of the resources of fake news sources. Not even a Twitter handle for tip-offs, which is easy to organise.

There is also the matter of how it is only, again, Putin-style plausible deniability that fails to establish links between the Leave campaigns, Russian money, and bloggers/social media people who sought to bully Remainers and push their own "independent" pro-Brexit views.

If it were made public that significant members of the Leave campaign broke campaign financing laws, and won the referendum illegally, it would cause enormous civil unrest. But the police isn't there to second-guess future rioting, it's there to uphold the law as it is now.

Let's be fair: it took South Yorkshire Police over 25 years to admit that they were in any way in the wrong during the Hillsborough disaster, so the lack of any investigation into the activities of Leave(dot)eu shouldn't be a surprise to those who've seen how uk policing can be.
