I cannot stress this enough (to beginners): Please use the most simple and effective tools first -- hex editor and strings tool (e.g. by SysInternals). You will find the low hanging fruits there. Btw IDA's strings view is **not** a replacement for a string tool.

If you jump right into decompiling or debugging without checking those first, you will---with some samples---miss the obvious stuff. You will also have more work than necessary. Do yourself a favour. <3

A lot of times with only look the strings you can make a overall idea of the sample,of course later is needed look if is true or not,or you can found a fake or trap with strings,but a lot of times only with the strings give you a big hint. Karsten is right,juniour people make it!

hmmm... various strings tools do some amount of "parsing". various xxd implementations are handy too when strings might have difficulties with some unicode+ascii mixed blobs
