I really like the rounded font and colored, bordered glyph buttons. If the whole of the OS looked like that, I'd be happy. Yet here we are with an ugly iOS 7-style Calendar app still

Maybe the person who shared these screenshots has access to a beta of the new Reminders but not Calendar?
it's possible but not likely. Things that get hidden are e.g. a new homescreen or multitasking UI, not usually something as pedestrian as Calendar
