I sure as hell wouldn't touch a MBP that only 'substantially reduces' the keyboard issue. This 'material change' sounds very like what we heard had been done last year — changing the supplier of the metal mechanism. Is this just last year's fix finally shipping, or is this try 2?

Apple still doesn't mention anything about the keyboard changes nor does it list the keyboard revision on the MBP specs page. Clearly they want to starve this problem of oxygen and pretend it never happened. Of course, that's not how the internet works

Perhaps they're simply resigned to being known as the company whose keyboards don't work until they can announce a real replacement in a year or so—which will make it *five years* since they introduced this keyboard design. Can't blame Intel for half a decade of broken keyboards.

What keyboard issue? The one where the keyboard just stops typing for some reason? Is that really a popular issue? I thought it just me.

Google "MacBook butterfly keyboard"

I don’t know about this one. The keys that break are the most commonly used. The materials used in butterfly keyboards were (up until today), much thinner and weaker. Say what you want about the feel, but it’s too early to say anything in regards to how they’ll hold up.
-
And about the use of the word ‘substantial,’ did Apple write that or the reporter? Keep in mind too that keyboard problems happen on all Macs, and decreasing them here is the goal. Apple isn’t going to call them faulty, even if they should. We’ll see in a few months.
-
(Also I’ve faced the cycle of keys breaking and replacing them three times so far, so I’m not just defending Apple for whatever reason. I legitimately want to see it fixed)

Apple hasn’t fixed the keyboard of the MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar?
-
yes! because that has not been updated since 2017.

-
Apple support told me that they are all 2018 models on the website
I’m lost

lol. The non-touch bar MacBook Pro is from 2017.

I wonder if we bring a 2018 defective one they will replace with the new keyboard material.
-
That's what they said, any B3 repairs will get the new material. I'm wondering if that includes the Air since it wasn't updated to the new material by default today.
-
I have a mbp with 3 keys that duplicate characters
-
Go ask for a repair now and specifically make sure it gets the new material from this press release then. Hope no one is getting the old material as of today.
-
I’m not in the US so I might need to wait until it’s available here. Will call them to check.
