Maybe it was just bigger in Scandinavia compared to central Europe? I mean we did get Ufouria and Mr.Gimmick here :)

I always find it weird when I hear “the NES was never very popular in Europe”. When/where I grew up everyone had an NES.. Other consoles and microcomputers were way more obscure and I rarely saw any of those. 🇳🇴

While it may appear like the backgrounds in Super Mario Bros. are made out of individually placed elements, there are in fact only 3 different pre-made backgrounds, seen in levels 1-1, 1-3 and 2-1. By changing a single byte in the game's code, any level can assume any background.

DOOM II is the one I had as a kid so I’m curious to see if I like it more than the first one. Feels like the stakes are raised here, with the super shotgun and chaingunner enemies. I like it! Feels like there’s more cohesion to the maps too.

Played through the DOOM port on PS4. It was great! The third episode I wasn’t as much into - especially the last few maps. Started DOOM II now. Feels surprisingly different (but awesome). Haven’t really played these since the 90s but they hold up incredibly well. 🏝

As a kid, this one was my favorite. If you drink a potion too soon after you drunk another, you roll to see how they interact. Sometimes your character just EXPLODES. Honestly, I can't think of a better example of the bonkers, homicidal spirit of 1970s role-playing than this.

This is my copy of the D&D Dungeon Master's Guide. I've had it for over 40 years. It came out before game design was invented, so it is mainly a fever dream of bizarre charts for every situation, most of which NOBODY ever used. Here are some examples.

Having lots of "magic hour" moments in Spelunky 2 lately! That's what I call the period toward the end of development where seemingly small additions/changes have a big impact because there's so much already in the game for them to hook into. Feels really good! :)

implements two sound emulation cores, "MAME YM2608" and "Nuked OPN-Mod". Nuked OPN-Mod is more accurate in some parts such as SSG-EG. However, it is a bit slow.
