Lesson learned today: The “New Checkout” from @stripe is nice, but still very far from being practically usable.

We want to set the billing address and tax_info of the customer, and the tax_percent of the subscription. Also, we need an option for a customer already on a subscription to update their payment method. Support always told me to use Elements for this.

Thanks for sharing! You could set the billing_address_collection as required https://stripe.com/docs/api/checkout/sessions/create#create_checkout_session-billing_address_collection … and create a customer to be linked to the Checkout session for setting up tax information and updating payment methodshttps://stripe.com/docs/payments/checkout/server#using-existing-customers …

We already have the billing address, thus we don’t want to collect it again. Regarding existing customers, the linked page says: “Note that using existing customers with plans and subscriptions is not yet supported.”

🤦‍♀️Sorry about that! In this case yes, the most flexible way is to use Elements. You can collect new card information with billing address and update a customer's payment method. Thanks again for sharing—we'll definitely look into this.

All right. Hope this gets resolved until SCA in Europe goes into effect 😉

Hi Timo, thanks a lot for this feedback. I’d love to learn more about your payment flow and how we could make the new Checkout work better for you, feel free to DM me. Thanks!

Sure. We’re a SaaS business in Europe and want to bill our customers with subscriptions. So far, missing features in the “New Checkout“ are: - Add shipping and tax_info to a new customer - Add tax_value to a new subscription - Update billing information for existing customers

Did you find a way around this yet? Also currently looking at serverside checkout for subscription billing, but it still doesn't seem possible to add tax or even a coupon to a checkout session and once the subscription is created (and it doesn't have a trial phase) it's too late.

While we still don't have a way to accomplish this at the moment, we'll be sure to look into adding this functionality!

Is there any proper workaround (besides a trial phase and adding tax_rates to subscriptions and initial invoice once the webhooks come in)? For discounts it's worse. Checkout page wouldn't reflect the discounted price since the discount would also only be patched in later.

So sorry but we don't have a better workaround to suggest! You may benefit from building out your integration with Stripe.js and Elements instead.
