Don't count your MRR before it converts. If you do a "paid trial" or "paid first month", record that first payment as a one-off invoice and then put them on a subscription with a free trial. Also helps by separating failed trials from true churn.

It always rubbed me the wrong way that
@stripe’s dashboard includes trials in the MMR and churn calculations. One of the reasons I use@Baremetrics and rarely look at my Stripe dashboard.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

We don't include trials in the MRR and churn calculations but we do count MRR before conversion. We appreciate your feedback on how the Dashboard could be more helpful!

But you do include trials that have ended, but have yet to complete a first payment. Often times they don't even have a card on their account yet. These should not be calculated into MRR, in my opinion, because they're essentially still "trailing" until they convert.

Thank you for the feedback on this! We agree that this behavior is less than ideal so we're looking into fixing this on our end.
